Liturgical Ministries

Liturgy Committee
This group meets approximately 3-5 times each semester to plan liturgical celebrations and to prepare for the upcoming liturgical season. Through breaking open the Word of God, the group works together to find a core message from the readings that can then be communicated through song, environment and rituals within our liturgy. Meeting times vary and can be found in the bulletin and Stone’s Throw. Indicate interest by checking the “liturgy committee” box on your registration card or by contacting Anastasia.

Weekday Worship Team
This liturgy committee plans at least one Wednesday Prime Time celebration a month, including Mass, prayer services and communal reconciliation services. The group also plans Tuesday prayer opportunities. Meetings are typically at 5pm Thursdays.

Eucharistic Ministers
These ministers help distribute the Precious Body and the Precious Blood at Sunday celebrations, Wednesday Prime Time and daily Eucharist. To express interest, come to the liturgical ministry in-service at the beginning of each semester or contact Anastasia or Father Ken. Ministers are then included on the liturgical schedule.

Ministers of the Word
This ministry involves the proclaiming of Scripture for liturgical celebrations, including Sunday Eucharist, Prime Time, and other liturgical celebrations. The reading of the Call To Worship and General Intercessions are also sometimes part of this responsibility. To express interest, come to the liturgical ministry in-service at the beginning of each semester or contact Anastasia or Father Ken. Ministers are then included on the liturgical schedule.

Ministers of Hospitality
These ministers serve both as greeters and ushers for Sunday Eucharist and Wednesday Prime Time. Ministers must arrive at least a half an hour prior to the celebration. To express interest, come to the liturgical ministry in-service at the beginning of each semester or contact Anastasia or Father Ken. Ministers are then included on the liturgical schedule.

Ministers of Music
All who enjoy praising God with the gift of song are encouraged to share their talents through accompanying on piano or organ, playing another instrument, serving as cantor, and/or taking part in the choir. Music ministry is integral not only for Sunday Eucharistic Liturgy, but also for many other liturgies and prayer experiences. The choir practices Tuesday evenings (usually at 7:45pm) and ministers 3-4 times a semester. To express interest, come to the liturgical ministry in-service at the beginning of each semester or contact Anastasia or Father Ken. Ministers are then included on the liturgical schedule.

Collection Counters
Those who like to minister more behind-the-scenes are a great gift to the community through this ministry. Money collected during Sunday Mass (representing the sacrifices of the community) is counted and recorded according to archdiocesan guidelines and then used to the benefit of our faith community and the larger community. The time commitment for this ministry is approximately twenty minutes following the liturgy. To express interest, come to the liturgical ministry in-service at the beginning of each semester or contact Anastasia or Father Ken. Ministers are then included on the liturgical schedule.

Sacristan
The sacristan is another essential behind-the-scenes minister. The sacristan helps prepare the environment and the gifts of bread and wine for Eucharistic liturgy and then cleanses vessels following Mass. Sacristan responsibilities begin about half an hour before the liturgy and approximately fifteen minutes after. To express interest, come to the liturgical ministry in-service at the beginning of each semester or contact Anastasia or Father Ken. Ministers are then included on the liturgical schedule.

As indicated above, all liturgical ministers are required to attend an in-service once a year as a reminder of the key points of their ministry and to ensure that all ministers are informed of any needed changes.

Preferred mass times will be asked upon sign-up at the in-services attended.

Every week as a reminder, ministers scheduled for the following week will be contacted.
